AIA-Approved Education

FGIA, an AIA-approved continuing education provider and the leading trade association in the fenestration industry, has been offering continuing education since 2000. AIA members are required to earn 18 continuing education learning units each year, which includes 12 hours of coursework in Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) topics. Plus, several states have established their own continuing education requirements for licensed architects, many of which recognize AIA credits. FGIA offers multiple options to obtain these credits.
Online Course
Your time is valuable. That's why we offer distance courses that are accessible at your convenience. We currently offer online versions of Specifying Windows, Doors and Skylights Using Performance Standards – NAFS-11 and Specifying Windows, Doors and Skylights Using Performance Standards – NAFS-17, both of which qualify as 1 LU/HSW credit each with the AIA. Additionally, these courses are free. A certificate of completion is provided following successful completion of these courses. For those states that recognize AIA courses, this certificate can be used to verify state-mandated requirements.
To take advantage of these offerings, simply watch either of the following videos and then click on the link below the video to complete the quiz. If you receive a minimum score of 80 percent, FGIA will provide a certificate of completion.

FenestrationMasters Courses
The FGIA FenestrationMasters® program offers professional certification and education that covers the full breadth of the fenestration industry, including performance standards, products and materials, test methods and code requirements.
AIA and ICC Approved Credits
The AIA accepts the FenestrationAssociate and FenestrationMaster coursework as 12 and 14.5 LUs/HSWs, respectively. Completion of the courses allows professionals to fulfill most of the annual requirement for AIA continuing education (18 LU/12 HSW hours), while also earning a professional certification.
In addition to AIA education offerings, FGIA is an International Code Council (ICC) approved provider offering FenestrationAssociate and FenestrationMaster coursework as 1.2 and 1.45 continuing education credits, respectively, which may be self reported to the ICC.
All AIA-accredited, FGIA-approved courses allow architects, specifiers and other professionals to expand their knowledge of the fenestration industry. For more information, contact AIAeducation@FGIAonline.org.
