The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has adopted the 2018 IRC and the 2018 IBC. As a result of the adoption of the new codes, changes have occurred in the TDI windstorm program. This presentation will cover those changes and how they affect fenestration products that are used on structures within the TDI windstorm program area. Topics of interest include the designated catastrophe area, wind speed and design pressure requirements, windborne debris requirements, the process for getting a product listed with the TDI, and conducting business during a pandemic.

Presenter: Paul Bove, Engineer, Texas Department of Insurance

Paul Bove is an engineer with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), located in Austin, Texas. Paul graduated from Texas Tech University where he pursued research in the area of window glass design. At the TDI, Paul participated in the development and implementation of building specifications for windstorm resistant construction of structures located along the Texas Gulf Coast. Paul’s activities at the TDI include maintaining building specifications adopted by the TDI; the review of test data of building products for compliance with building specifications adopted by the TDI; the development of evaluation reports for building products; and the development and conduct of educational programs regarding windstorm resistant construction and building specifications adopted by the TDI.
